Shock Absorber FAQ

What are the signs of worn shock absorbers?

The vehicle bounces excessively after going over bumps, dips on one corner during hard braking, or feels unstable on turns. Fluid leaking from the shock body, uneven tire wear, or noise over bumps also indicate worn shocks. Test by pressing down on the bumper and letting go. The car should bounce twice and settle. More bouncing means shocks are done.

What is the difference between bare struts and conventional shocks?

Bare struts are shock units without the coil spring attached, used in vehicles where the spring is mounted separately. Conventional shocks are standalone dampers that work with a separate spring. Check your vehicle type to order the correct configuration.

Do your shocks come as pairs?

Yes. All shocks are sold in front pairs (driver and passenger side) so both sides are replaced together for balanced suspension performance.

What other suspension parts should I check?

While the shocks are being replaced, inspect the strut assemblies, coil springs, and control arms. Worn shocks often indicate that these components are nearing the end of their service life too.

How fast do you ship?

Shock absorber orders ship in 2-4 days on all orders. Call 888-583-0255 or email [email protected] if you need help with fitment.

What warranty covers your shocks?

Many Detroit Axle shock absorbers are backed by a 10-year warranty. Check each product page for warranty coverage on that specific pair.
