Drive Shafts
Replacement Drive Shafts
Replace a vibrating, clunking, or failed drive shaft with a direct-fit unit built to original equipment specifications. Our drive shaft catalog covers front and rear positions with CV joints or universal joints, depending on your vehicle’s design and powertrain configuration.
For Jeep, Honda, and Ford
We stock drive shafts for high-volume vehicles including the Honda CR-V (2002-2014), Dodge Charger (2007-2014), and Ford F-150 (2009-2017). Drive shafts are made to order for Jeep applications and other vehicles as needed.
Drive Shaft FAQ
What are the signs of a bad drive shaft?
Vibration that gets worse at higher speeds is the most common sign. You may also hear a clunking noise from underneath when accelerating hard or shifting from drive to reverse. A universal joint can fail suddenly, causing complete loss of power to the wheels.
What is the difference between front and rear drive shafts?
Front drive shafts connect the transfer case to the front differential in 4WD and AWD vehicles, and they use CV joints to handle the angles created by steering. Rear drive shafts connect the transmission or transfer case to the rear differential and may use either CV joints or traditional universal joints. Both transfer engine power to the wheels.
Does my drive shaft come with all hardware and joints installed?
Yes. Detroit Axle drive shaft assemblies ship complete and ready to install. They include the shaft, CV joints or universal joints, and all necessary mounting hardware. No additional parts are needed unless you are also replacing CV axles or boots.
What companion parts might I need?
If the drive shaft failed due to a worn CV joint, also inspect the CV axles and boots. If those are damaged, replace them at the same time.
How quickly do you ship?
Drive shaft orders ship in 2-4 days on all orders. Call 888-583-0255 or email [email protected] if you need fitment help.
What warranty covers your drive shafts?
Many Detroit Axle drive shafts are backed by a 10-year warranty. Check each product page for the warranty term on that specific drive shaft.
